Trajko Stojanovic Kosovac (1934-2002) was a prominent Serbian artist who persistently recorded the threads of his past
and fused it with the language of today’s modern art. He drew
inspiration from Serbian Middle Age traditions, and used his superior
knowledge of copper etching and other graphic
techniques to establish his strong artistic identity and set him apart
from those who use more experimental methods.
Kosovac created varying compositions - from poetic and graceful Kosovo women, to almost grotesque fantasies, rich in expression and colour schemes. The atmosphere created by these graphic representations leaves behind feelings of nostalgia and respect. In Kosovac’s own words: “As I walk through the past, tracing our ancestors and discovering old and new landmarks along
the way, I so become acquainted with ourselves and those others…”.
Kosovac was a member of ULUS, the Serbian Artistic Group “Lada” and
Belgrade’s Graphic Association.
Branka Stojanovic Trifunovski, the daughter of Trajko Stojanovic, was born in Kosovska Mitrovica in 1965. She graduated from the University of Belgrade’s
school of fine arts in 1989. She is a member of ULUS, the association
of Serbian artists, since 1990. She has been exhibited in numerous
group and solo exhibitions. She teaches in an elementary school in
Belgrade.
